Taiwanese Universities are now recruiting international students for their fully funded Taiwan scholarships without IELTS for the 2022-2023 batch of admissions. It is the golden time to prepare your scholarship application documents and apply for Taiwanese Scholarships.

Taiwan, which is also known as the Asian Tiger is mainly famous for its technological advancement and its higher education system. International students are coming to Taiwan at an increasing pace as this country offers a wide range of programs in almost all subject areas.

The Taiwanese government is making efforts to invite international students to its universities. It has set the target of having 150,000 international students in its higher educational institutions. For this purpose, it has started increasing the number of programs that are being offered in English and has also initiated a number of scholarship programs to financially help foreign students.

Do we need IELTS to Study in Taiwan?

The universities in Taiwan are using English and Mandarin as their mediums of instruction. Those students whose first language is English or who have been taught in English in their previous degree programs; will not have to prove their English language proficiency. Other students will have to take tests of IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, DET, etc in order to apply for Taiwan Scholarships.

Applicants can also submit an English Language Proficiency certificate instead of IELTS for Taiwan scholarship application consideration.

Following is the complete list of all Taiwan Scholarships without IELTS requirement:

#1 Scholarships by the National Tsing Hua University:

The National Tsing Hua University is offering scholarships to those international students who are pursuing their bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees at the university. Students from outside of Taiwan can apply provided that they have superior knowledge of either English or the Mandarin language. 

The National Tsing Hua University Scholarships benefits are:

  • A tuition fee waiver
  • A monthly stipend
  • Credit fee waiver

The students doing PhDs will get a monthly allowance of 20,000 NTD to 40,000 NTD. International students at the bachelor’s or master’s levels will get a monthly stipend of 5000 NTD.

#2 Scholarships by the National Chiao Tung University:

These National Chiao Tung University scholarships are with the name Elite Scholarships without the need for IELTS if other certs are available. These are reserved for those foreign students who have an excellent scholastic record as well as a passion for research. International students doing a Ph.D. in any subject area at the National Chiao Tung University can apply. The stipend worth is 31,500 NTD (a month) which is equivalent to 1114 USD.

Students should have a list of published researches in order to increase their chances of getting in National Chiao Tung University Taiwanese scholarship.

#3 Scholarships by the National Cheng Kung University:

The scholarship program of the National Cheng Kung University is with the name Distinguished International Students Scholarship. As the name suggests it is only for international students, those who are studying at the under and postgraduate levels. It is sort of an entrance scholarship so the students are not required to submit a separate application.

The top 20% of students at the undergraduate level will receive a 15,000 NTD stipend, while the top 21% to 40% of the students will be entitled to a monthly award of 10,000 NTD per month.

Students at the master’s levels for National Cheng Kung University Scholarship will receive a monthly stipend of 8,000 NTD. The Ph.D. candidates will receive a stipend of 15,000 NTD a month. All of the scholarship recipients will also be entitled to various percentages of tuition fee waivers (as per their academic profile).

#4 Taiwanese ICDF Awards:

These ICDF 2022 awards are being given to students from a number of selected countries and are being sponsored by the International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF) of Taiwan. Students at all degree levels can apply for these scholarships. About 21 of the Taiwanese universities are affiliated with it.

The Taiwan ICDF awards are fully funded i.e. the recipients will not have to pay for any of their living or educational expenses. It includes coverage for tuition, housing, airfare (once a year), health insurance, and textbooks. 

The monthly stipend at ICDF for offsetting the recipients’ living costs are;

  • 12000 NTD for bachelor’s students
  • 15000 NTD for master’s students
  • 17000 NTD for Ph.D. candidates

#5 Scholarships by the Government of Taiwan:

This Tawan Government scholarship program without IELTS is meant to strengthen academic and research relations between Taiwan and other countries. Students from countries other than China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan can apply for these scholarships provided that they are being enrolled in an approved undergraduate course.

The Taiwanese Government scholarship allows for an allowance of up to 40,000 NTD per semester. Students are free to use that allowance to offset any of their educational expenses. They, however, are refrained from sending that money overseas. Students will be required to pay off the rest of their expenses out of their own pockets.

The recipients at the undergraduate levels will also be entitled to a monthly stipend of 15,000 NTD a month. For master’s and Ph.D. students, this stipend will increase to 20,000 NTD a month. The length of the scholarship is up to five years.
