Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) launched the Taiwan Scholarship program 2023 in collaboration with other ministries to attract students of different cultures and backgrounds to motivate them to study in Taiwan.

Due to this international students can pursue their academic education in Taiwan for free and this would cover all degree options such as BS, MS and PhD. This Taiwanese scholarship is introduced for students from countries having diplomatic/friendly relationships with Taiwan, however, students from other nations might receive special consideration depending on their academic background.

Who can apply for Taiwan MOFA Scholarship?

All international students can apply for this Taiwan scholarship who meets the eligibility criteria and must not be national of the Republic of China (Taiwan). International students must also have good scores in their previous education, must be law-abiding citizens of their country, be in a good state of health and mind, and have written convincing research proposal or a study plan to prove why they want to study in Taiwan.

What does MOFA Taiwan Scholarship 2023 offer?

International students who managed to win MOFA scholarship funding would be entitled to receive a monthly stipend of NT$25,000 for the non-degree Mandarin Language Enrichment Program (LEP). These students will also get a monthly stipend of NT$30,000 for degree programs (undergraduate, master, or doctoral degree, excluding in-service programs) and tickets for direct, one-way flights in economy class to and from Taiwan will also be sponsored.

Requirements/Eligibility To Apply for MOFA Taiwan Scholarship

  • Applicants must be high school graduates or above with excellent academic reports, has a fine moral character, and must have no criminal record.
  • Applicants must not be the national of the Republic of China (Taiwan)
  • Applicants must not be overseas fellow-citizen students.
  • Applicants must have never attended an educational institution in Taiwan or taken courses at the same degree level or LEP they want to apply for.
  • Applicants must not be enrolled in an exchange program through collaboration between a foreign university or college and Taiwan’s educational institutions while receiving the scholarship.
  • Applicants must never have a Scholarship terminated by a ROC government agency or other relevant institution.

How to Apply for MOFA Taiwan Scholarships?

  1. Generally, the annual application period extends from February 1 to March 31. However, the application period will follow each diplomatic mission’s general application guidelines.
  2. Applicants must submit the required documents to the ROC diplomatic mission in their country of origin:
  • A completely filled application form
  • A passport photocopy or alternate documents that can prove the candidate’s nationality
  • A photocopy of a complete grade transcript along with the highest-level diploma or certificate.
  • The documents must be ROC diplomatic mission approved if they are issued by a foreign educational institution. The documents must be in Chinese or English language. They must be translated by a certified person if the documents exist in any other language.
  • Photocopies of documents such as application fee receipt, the application form, and a note of reply or email from the educational institution that serves as proof that the candidate has applied to an educational institution or its affiliated Mandarin Training Center
  • A photocopy of a TOCFL transcript or certificate for Level 2 or above is required for applicants who want to apply for degree programs taught in Chinese.
  • A photocopy of the TOEFL score or a certificate of English proficiency approved by the applicant’s government as proof that the applicant has completed a program in English.

Application Deadline

The application deadline for MOFA Taiwan Scholarship 2023 for all international students to apply for any BS, MS, or PhD discipline is March 31, 2023.
