The University of Alberta has recently announced the fully-funded Alberta Scholarships for the academic year 2022-2023 for admissions in all degree courses. Most of the Alberta University scholarships are exempted from IELTS, GMAT, and GRE.

University of Alberta Admissions Application Fees $75-$125.

The University of Alberta has fixed the application fee at $125 CAD for new applicants. However, for already enrolled students the application fee is reduced to $75 CAD. As the university has an online application process the payment has to be made by means of a credit card.

The University of Alberta has an acceptance rate of 58%, slightly higher in comparison to the other top-ranked universities. According, to the QS World University Rankings 2021 it is ranked at 119th globally, while it sits on the 5th position nationwide. 

University of Alberta Require IELTS or not?

The University of Alberta requires Written English Language Proficiency (ELP) for all programs. However, Spoken English Proficiency is required for some programs. The English Proficiency can be proved by providing the English Test results recognized by the university or taking the university’s designed to test. 

A minimum score is required for any test that is submitted in order to meet the English Proficiency requirements, The University of Alberta accepts IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo, CAEL, CanTEST, PTE, and Cambridge English Scale test results.

University of Alberta Scholarships for International Students

The University of Alberta has various scholarship offerings for undergraduate and graduate programs. These scholarships may be the entrance, merit-based or need-based. The scholarships are aimed at covering tuition fees with additional allowances for various needs.

These are primarily initiated for international students to comfort them financially while they’re away from home. The University of Alberta gives away scholarships worth $34 million every year across different undergraduate programs. Some of their most prominent schemes include:

  • Admission-Based Scholarships for International Students

This is an entrance scholarship initiated for international students pursuing higher education in the University of Alberta. It is specifically for undergraduate programs. It is divided into two segments which are as follows:

1) Gold Entrance Scholarships

It is a program that rewards students in the top 5% of their faculty. It is valued at up to $6,000. The decisions for the scholarship are primarily made on an admission average basis.

2) University of Alberta International Admission Scholarships

This scholarship is specifically for international applicants on a study permit in Canada. They may receive funding of up to $5,000. The decisions for the scholarship are primarily made on academic merits.

To be eligible the students must be entering the first year of an undergraduate program and meet the set admission average requirements. To apply you must submit an application in your desired program, and you’ll be sent credentials for the scholarship application within two to three days.

  • President’s International Distinction Scholarships

This is one of the biggest scholarship initiatives across Canada. It is available only for undergraduate students entering the first year of their undergraduate program. It is valued at up to $120,000 CAD across four years. Students with a relatively higher admission average and proven leadership qualities are considered for the program.

  • May Quon Undergraduate Scholarships

This is a country-specific initiative for Chinese and Hong Kong students. It is valued at up to $100,000 CAD over a period of four years. The students possessing academic excellence and brilliant leadership skills are considered for the program. In addition to that, financial need is also kept in hindsight and students demonstrating financial need are given preference.

  • University of Alberta Graduate Entrance Scholarships

The University of Alberta provides scholarships to new entrants in graduate programs. The value for it is set at $17,500 for Masters and $21,000 for doctoral students. The decisions are made based on admission averages. However, an additional stipend of $10,000 is set for international entrants in comparison to $5,800 for locals. The applicants must have a GPA in excess of 3.7 to be in consideration. No applications are hosted and the applicants are automatically reviewed for the program.

  • A.F and Sophia Haddad Memorial Award to Further Education in Business and Finance

This scholarship initiative is for international students with a study visa as well as for domestic students. This scholarship is given out to a student in his/her final year of Bachelor at the Alberta Business School with the major being Accounting or Finance. 

The award is decided on the basis of academic merits with community involvement also kept in view. Students who aim to pursue Chartered Accountancy or Chartered Financial 

Analysis as a profession is given preference under this scheme.

1) ADC Scholarships in Management Information System

Students set to enter the 3rd or 4th year of their program at the Business School are covered under this scheme. The student must be specializing in Management Information Systems to be eligible for the scholarship.

The decision for the distribution of the scheme is reached keeping in view the academic performance, leadership, community involvement, sporting involvement, and extracurricular activities.
