This is a big news update for students interested to study in Canada as of now Canada was only accepting IELTS, and CELPIP general from international students for processing their study visa applications but from August 10, 2023 IRCC Canada is also going to accept Pearsons Test of English (PTE Academic) for their student direct stream (SDS) visa applications (Ref Canada.ca).
You might not know this but recently for this specific reason PTE has also changed the name of their English language test by remaining it as PTE Core from PTE academic so if you want to take PTE test then do not get confused by these names (Ref Pearsons Canada Inc Press release to Canada.ca).
In start of 2023 Canada IRCC department already started accepting PTE core english language test for their citizenship and permanent residency programs and this time IRCC extended the acceptance of PTE core test for SDS study visa applications and made it easier for international students to immigrate to Canada for their higher studies and till date IRCC Canada has processed over 750k+ study visa applications which depicts Canada as one of the hottest and top ranked study destination among international students.
This is also worth mentioning that PTE core (formerly PTE academic) was also accepted for study visa applications in countries such as Ireland, Australia, USA, and UK, whereas there are over 400+ PTE test taking centers available all across the globe as of quoted by Andy Bird (Pearson’s CEO) (Ref Pearsons).
